Near-Earth asteroid 2015 RN35 is to pass by Earth on Dec. 15

Near-Earth asteroid 2015 RN35 will reach its closest approach to Earth on Dec. 15, at a distance of about 686,000 kilometers, and then fly past the Earth, according to Space.com.

The asteroid is between 60-140 meters in size, equivalent to the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

From its closest approach to Earth on December 15 to December 19, it had an apparent magnitude of about 14.

Its similarity to Pluto’s apparent magnitude means that it can only be observed with telescopes of 30 cm or more.

At present, scientists know very little about this asteroid.

On December 9, the European Space Agency issued a statement calling on amateur astronomers to observe this “Christmas asteroid” .

They hope to gain more information about the asteroid and learn more about the potentially threatening object.
