According to the official website of the Ministry of Human Services on Nov. 30, the State Council removed Gao Fu as deputy director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
Gao Fu was appointed by the State Council in February 2018 as one of the deputy directors of the eighth National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
He was also appointed director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in July 2017 and stepped down in July 2022 due to his age.
He is a pathogenic microbiologist and immunologist, focusing on cross-host transmission of pathogenic microorganisms, infection mechanisms and host cellular immunity, as well as public health policy and global health strategy research.
He also holds several honorary titles, including the recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, Chief Scientist of the National 973 Project, an inductee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences “100 People Program”, a member of the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries, member of the American Academy of Microbiology, foreign member of the European Molecular Biology Organization, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, foreign member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and member of the African Academy of Sciences. He is also a Foreign Member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a member of the African Academy of Sciences.
